Stripe payments to Google Sheets: free n8n workflow template

By the serverserv team · 3 min read · Updated

Keep a live list of payments without logging in to Stripe. Each successful charge is added to a Google Sheet with the date, amount, currency, customer email and description, and your team gets a short note in Slack.

How it works

  1. Payment succeeded listens for Stripe's charge.succeeded event. n8n registers the webhook in Stripe for you.
  2. Pick fields takes the useful fields and converts the amount from cents.
  3. Add row appends the payment to Google Sheets, and Announce in Slack posts it.

Nodes used: Stripe Trigger, Edit Fields, Google Sheets, Slack.

What you need

  • A Stripe account and a restricted API key
  • Google Sheets and Slack accounts
  • An n8n instance reachable over HTTPS, so Stripe can deliver events

Set it up

  1. In Stripe, create a restricted key with the access n8n needs to read charges and manage webhook endpoints, and add it as a Stripe credential in Payment succeeded.
  2. Connect Google Sheets in Add row and create the columns date, amount, currency, email, description, payment_id.
  3. Connect Slack in Announce in Slack, or delete that node.
  4. Activate the workflow and make a test payment in Stripe's test mode first.

New to importing? In n8n, open a new workflow, then either paste the copied JSON onto the canvas or use the menu (the three dots) and choose Import from file. Credentials are never included, so you connect your own accounts after importing.

Ways to customise it

  • Use payment_intent.succeeded instead if you work with Payment Intents directly.
  • Add refunds with a second trigger for charge.refunded.
  • Send a thank-you email or create an invoice in your accounting tool.

Security notes

Use a restricted key, not your secret key, and test in Stripe's test mode first. Customer emails are personal data: keep the sheet private and share it only with people who need it.

Where to run it

Templates with webhooks or triggers need n8n running all the time and reachable over HTTPS. You can run n8n on your own computer to try it, but for real use it belongs on a server. serverserv n8n Hosting gives you n8n pre-installed on your own KVM server with HTTPS, from $14.99 a month with no execution limits, and we will set up your first workflow for you, this one included.

Questions

Does this work with Stripe test mode?

Yes. Use a test-mode restricted key to try it, then switch the credential to a live key.

Are amounts in cents?

Stripe sends cents. The template divides by 100. For zero-decimal currencies such as JPY, remove the division.

Is this n8n template free to use?

Yes. It is free under the MIT licence, for personal and business use. You need your own n8n instance and your own accounts for the connected apps.
