What every Windows RDP plan includes

Windows licence included

The Windows Server licence is part of the plan price on every plan and every term. There is no separate licence fee.

Remote Desktop from any device

Connect with Remote Desktop Connection on Windows, or Microsoft's Windows App (formerly Remote Desktop) on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android.

Administrator access

Sign in as administrator and install what you need: trading platforms, accounting software, IIS, .NET or SQL Server Express.

Runs when your PC is off

Programs keep running on the server after you disconnect, so trading terminals and scheduled tasks carry on without your computer.

NVMe storage and bandwidth

From 50 GB NVMe and 4 TB monthly bandwidth on Windows RDP 1 to 400 GB NVMe and 40 TB on Windows RDP 4.

Four sizes, upgrade later

From 1 vCPU and 4 GB RAM up to 8 vCPU and 32 GB RAM. Request an upgrade from your client area when you need more.

Choosing a plan

Which Windows RDP plan do I need?

Windows Server needs more memory than Linux, so choose 8 GB or more if you run several programs at once. See how much RAM and CPU a server needs.

Windows RDP 1One trading platform or a light business app for a single user; Windows itself uses a good part of the 4 GB RAM.
Windows RDP 2Several MT4 or MT5 terminals, accounting software with a database, or a few programs open at once.
Windows RDP 3Many trading terminals, SQL Server workloads or several business apps running side by side.
Windows RDP 4Heavy databases, many programs at once, or build and test jobs that need 8 vCPU and 32 GB RAM.

What is Windows RDP hosting?

Windows RDP hosting gives you your own Windows Server virtual machine that you use through Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). You open a Remote Desktop app on your computer or phone, connect, and see a full Windows desktop that keeps running after you disconnect.

The names are used loosely. A "Windows VPS" and an "RDP server" usually mean the same thing: a virtual server running Windows Server that you reach over RDP. At serverserv each Windows RDP plan is exactly that, with administrator access and the Windows Server licence included. It is your own server, not a shared RDP login on someone else's machine.

Windows plans cost more than Linux plans of the same size because the licence is in the price. Windows RDP 1 and KVM 1 both have 1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 50 GB NVMe, at $21.99 and $14.99 a month. Many hosts charge the Windows licence as a separate add-on; ours is part of the plan price on every term, and the plan renews at the price you paid.

For more detail, read our guide what is Windows RDP hosting and who uses it.

How do I connect to my Windows server?

Use any Remote Desktop client with the IP address, username and password from your welcome email and client area.

  1. Windows: open Remote Desktop Connection (type mstsc in the Start menu), enter the server IP and sign in as administrator.
  2. Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android: install Microsoft's Windows App (formerly Remote Desktop) from your app store, add the server IP and sign in.
  3. Linux: use an RDP client such as Remmina or FreeRDP.

After your first login, change the administrator password and keep Windows Update turned on. To move files, copy and paste through the session or share a local drive in your Remote Desktop settings. When you close the window or disconnect, your programs keep running on the server. Signing out closes them, so disconnect instead if a trading terminal or task must keep going.

How many people can use one Windows server?

Windows Server allows two Remote Desktop sessions at the same time for administration. That covers one person working on the server, or two people sharing admin work.

Giving more people their own desktop sessions needs Microsoft Remote Desktop Services client access licences (RDS CALs), one per user or device, and the Remote Desktop Session Host role. These are separate from the Windows Server licence included in your plan.

If a team will work on one server, open a ticket before you order and tell us how many users you need. We will confirm whether RDS licences can be added and what they cost. Each active user also needs memory, so a server for several people usually starts at Windows RDP 2 or Windows RDP 3.

Questions

Windows RDP questions, answered

Is the Windows Server licence included?

Yes. Every Windows RDP plan includes the Windows Server licence in the price, on monthly billing and on 1, 2 and 3 year terms.

Which Windows Server version do I get?

Choose the version in the order form; the list shown there is what is available. If you need a specific version, open a ticket before you order.

How do I connect from a Mac, Linux PC or phone?

On Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android, use Microsoft's Windows App (formerly Remote Desktop). On Linux, use an RDP client such as Remmina. Sign in with the IP, username and password from your welcome email.

Can I run MT4 or MT5 on it?

Yes. You have administrator access, so you can install MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and trading bots, and they keep running after you disconnect. See our guide to a Windows VPS for MT4 and MT5.

How many users can connect at the same time?

Windows Server allows two administrator sessions at once. More users need RDS client access licences, so open a ticket before you order if you need them.

Does the price go up when I renew?

No. Your server renews for the same term at the price you paid. If a price ever has to change, we email you at least 30 days before renewal and you can cancel first.

Can I upgrade to a bigger plan later?

Yes. Request an upgrade from your client area, up to Windows RDP 4 with 8 vCPU and 32 GB RAM.

How can I pay?

You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Amex, Apple Pay or Google Pay (all through Stripe) or PayPal. Prices are in USD.

How soon can I connect after ordering?

Your Windows server is set up after payment. The IP address and login details are emailed to you and shown in your client area.

What if I want a refund?

You can get your money back within 14 days on your first order. Domains, software licences and setup fees aren't included. Other payments for active services follow our refund policy.
