Features

What every Linux KVM VPS plan includes

KVM virtualization

Each VPS runs its own Linux kernel on KVM, not a shared container. Docker and other system-level software work as they would on a physical machine.

Full root access

Log in over SSH as root and install what you need: Docker, Nginx, PostgreSQL, Node.js, Python, or a control panel you license yourself.

NVMe storage

Every plan uses NVMe storage, from 25 GB on KVM Mini to 800 GB on KVM 5.

Monthly bandwidth

Each plan includes a monthly bandwidth allowance, from 2 TB on KVM Mini to 60 TB on KVM 5.

No renewal surprises

Your plan renews for the same term at the price you paid. If a price ever has to change, you get at least 30 days of email notice and can cancel first.

Six sizes, upgrade later

Start on KVM Mini (1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM) and move up to KVM 5 (16 vCPU, 64 GB RAM) by requesting an upgrade from your client area.

Choosing a plan

Which KVM VPS plan do I need?

Not sure? Start smaller and upgrade from your client area later, or read how much RAM and CPU a VPS needs.

KVM MiniA single small app, a chat bot, a VPN or a test server; 2 GB RAM is tight for Docker stacks.
KVM 1A production website or API, a small Docker Compose stack, or a small game server for a few players.
KVM 2Several containers, a WordPress site with its database, or an app plus PostgreSQL; the size most projects grow into.
KVM 3Busy web apps, larger databases, CI runners or modded game servers that need 4 vCPU and 16 GB RAM.
KVM 4Many sites or services on one server, heavier databases and build jobs that need 8 vCPU and 32 GB RAM.
KVM 5Large databases, big container hosts and compute-heavy work that needs 16 vCPU and 64 GB RAM.

What is a KVM VPS?

A KVM VPS is a virtual private server that runs on KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine), the virtualization built into the Linux kernel. One physical server is split into several virtual machines, and each one gets its own vCPU, RAM, NVMe disk and its own operating system kernel.

That last part sets KVM apart from container-based VPS types such as OpenVZ or LXC, where every customer shares the host kernel. On KVM your server behaves like a real machine:

  • You can run Docker, Docker Compose and other software that needs kernel features.
  • You can reboot, reinstall or change system settings without affecting anyone else.
  • The memory and disk set by your plan are allocated to your server.

Compared with shared web hosting, a VPS gives you root access and room to run any Linux software, not only websites. Compared with a dedicated server, it costs much less because the hardware is shared at the virtualization layer. Our Linux KVM VPS plans start with KVM Mini (1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 25 GB NVMe) and go up to KVM 5 (16 vCPU, 64 GB RAM, 800 GB NVMe).

What you manage on an unmanaged VPS

Our Linux KVM VPS is unmanaged. We provide the server, the network and the virtualization; you run everything inside it. With full root access you log in over SSH and decide what is installed and how it is set up.

In practice, you are responsible for:

  • Keeping the operating system and packages up to date.
  • Securing SSH, setting up a firewall and creating non-root users.
  • Installing and configuring your software, web server and databases.
  • Backing up your data.

If that is the level of control you want, a KVM VPS gives you the most server for the price. Our guide to securing a Linux VPS covers the first steps after you log in. If you would rather have our team look after updates and security, choose Managed VPS, which runs on the same KVM servers.

All three put your project online. The difference is who runs the server and how much you can change on it.

Questions

Linux KVM VPS questions, answered

Is this VPS managed or unmanaged?

It is unmanaged. You get full root access and manage the server yourself. If you want our team to handle updates and security, choose Managed VPS.

Can I run Docker and Docker Compose on it?

Yes. KVM gives your server its own kernel, so Docker and Docker Compose install and run normally. For more than a couple of containers, KVM 1 or larger gives you more room than KVM Mini.

Which Linux distributions can I install?

Choose your operating system in the order form; the list shown there is what is available. You can reinstall from your client area later.

Does the VPS price go up when I renew?

No. Your VPS renews for the same term at the price you paid. If a price ever has to change, we email you at least 30 days before renewal and you can cancel first.

Can I buy a VPS with PayPal?

Yes. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Amex, Apple Pay or Google Pay (all through Stripe) or PayPal. Prices are in USD.

Can I upgrade my VPS plan later?

Yes. Request an upgrade to a bigger plan from your client area, from KVM Mini all the way to KVM 5.

How soon is my VPS ready?

Your server is set up after payment. The login details are emailed to you and shown in your client area.

Can I install cPanel, CyberPanel or aaPanel?

Yes. With root access you can install any control panel that supports your Linux distribution. Paid panel licences, such as cPanel, are bought separately by you.

Where are your VPS servers located?

Open a ticket before you order and tell us what you are running and where your users are. We will confirm what fits your project.

What if I want a refund?

You can get your money back within 14 days on your first order. Domains, software licences and setup fees aren't included. Other payments for active services follow our refund policy.
