What is business email hosting?
Business email hosting is a paid service that runs email for your own domain, so you send and receive mail as [email protected] instead of a free address such as [email protected]. The provider runs the mail servers, stores your mailboxes, filters spam and viruses, and lets you read mail in a browser or in apps such as Outlook and Apple Mail.
To use it you need a domain name. You point the domain's MX records at the email host so mail for your domain arrives in your mailboxes. Most providers also ask you to add SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, which help receiving servers confirm that your mail is genuine and keep it out of spam folders. If you need help with the records for your domain, open a ticket.
Business email hosting is different from the email accounts that come with web hosting. A separate email plan keeps your mail apart from your website, so moving or rebuilding the site does not touch your mailboxes, and you choose the mailbox size for each person. Is business email priced per user, per mailbox or per domain?
Most business email is priced per user or per mailbox each month, and serverserv prices per mailbox. You choose a plan and the number of mailboxes in the order form, and the total is the plan price times the number of mailboxes.
For example, a team of 5 on Email Business pays 5 x $1.99 = $9.95 a month on monthly billing, or 5 x $56.99 = $284.95 once for a 3-year term, about $1.58 per mailbox a month. Longer terms are billed once, and your price is locked in for the whole term.
Shared addresses such as info@ or sales@ can be handled in different ways depending on how your team works. Email Business costs $1.99 per mailbox a month on monthly billing, $19.99 a year, or $56.99 for 3 years, about $1.58 a month. Email Suite costs $2.99 a month, $29.99 a year, or $85.99 for 3 years, about $2.39 a month. Every price is for one mailbox.
Does the price go up when my email plan renews?
No. Your plan renews for the same term at the price you paid. If a price ever has to change, you get at least 30 days' email notice and can cancel before the renewal.
Do I need my own domain for business email?

Can I use Outlook, Apple Mail or my phone?
Yes. Connect any mail app that supports IMAP and SMTP, including Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird and the mail apps on iPhone and Android, or use webmail in a browser.
What is the difference between web hosting email and business email hosting?
Web hosting plans include email accounts alongside your website (5 on Starter, 25 on Business). Business Email is a separate service with 10 or 25 GB per mailbox, plus calendars and contacts on both plans.
