Features

What do you get with OpenClaw hosting?

OpenClaw pre-installed

OpenClaw is installed and set up on your server. You add your model provider and pair your chat apps.

Your own KVM server

Each plan is a KVM virtual server with NVMe storage, from 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM up to 18 vCPU and 96 GB RAM.

Works from your chat apps

OpenClaw takes requests through apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Signal and Microsoft Teams. iMessage needs a Mac (see Mac mini vs VPS for OpenClaw). Setup guides: Telegram, Discord and WhatsApp.

Your choice of AI model

Use Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter or Amazon Bedrock with your own API key, or sign in with a ChatGPT subscription. You pay the model provider directly.

Runs when your laptop is off

The agent keeps running on the server, so scheduled tasks and incoming messages are handled while your own computer is off.

No renewal surprises

Pay monthly or for 1 to 3 years. Your plan renews for the same term at the price you paid.

Use cases

What can an OpenClaw agent do on a server?

Personal assistantAnswers messages, drafts replies and keeps notes from your chat apps.
Scheduled tasksRuns checks, reminders and reports on a schedule.
Research and summariesGathers information and sends you a summary in chat.
Browser automationWorks through websites and forms; plan for 8 GB RAM or more.
Team agentsSeparate agents or gateways for different teams on the larger plans.
Local modelsRuns a model on the server with Ollama on the high-RAM plans, slower than a cloud API.
Choosing a plan

Which OpenClaw hosting plan do I need?

If your model runs in the cloud, OpenClaw Starter is enough for most single users; move up when you add browser automation, more agents or a local model.

OpenClaw StarterOne person using a cloud model through a few chat apps, since OpenClaw itself needs only 1 to 2 GB RAM when the model runs in the cloud.
Personal UseRegular personal use across several channels, with room for browser automation on 8 GB RAM.
Power UserHeavier use with several agents and browser automation on 6 vCPU and 12 GB RAM.
Team DeploymentTeams running separate agents or gateways, or testing a local model, on 12 vCPU and 48 GB RAM.
Enterprise ScaleMany agents for many teams, or larger local models on 96 GB RAM, accepting that a model on CPU is slower than a cloud API.

What is OpenClaw and what can it do on a server?

OpenClaw is a free, open-source personal AI agent released under the MIT licence. It runs as a long-running service, called the Gateway, on your own computer or server, and takes requests through the chat apps you already use. You message it on Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack or another channel, and it works through the task, uses tools and replies. Earlier versions were called Clawdbot and then Moltbot; the project became OpenClaw in January 2026. It was created by Peter Steinberger and is now stewarded by the non-profit OpenClaw Foundation.

OpenClaw does not include an AI model. You connect one: a hosted model from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter or Amazon Bedrock with your own API key, a ChatGPT subscription sign-in, or a local model through Ollama. You pay the model provider separately. Your serverserv plan covers the server and the setup.

On a server, OpenClaw keeps working when your laptop is closed. It can answer messages, run scheduled tasks, gather and summarise information, and automate a browser. Because the model usually runs in the cloud, the agent itself is light: the official minimum is 1 GB RAM, with 2 GB or more recommended. Extra RAM matters for browser automation (about 2 GB per headless browser), several agents or a local model. Our OpenClaw VPS requirements guide goes into sizing.

How do I keep an OpenClaw server secure?

Treat OpenClaw like any tool that can act for you: give it only the access it needs. The OpenClaw documentation recommends keeping the Gateway bound to the server itself (loopback) and reaching its control interface through an SSH tunnel or Tailscale, rather than opening it to the public internet.

  • Keep pairing on, so unknown senders get a pairing code, and allowlist the groups the agent may answer.
  • Install skills only from sources you trust. A malicious third-party skill has been found in the past.
  • Use separate accounts with limited permissions for the services the agent touches, and keep one trust boundary per Gateway.
  • Remember that web pages and messages can contain prompt injection aimed at the agent.
  • Run openclaw security audit after changes.

If you want to know how your server is configured on delivery, open a ticket before you order and we will confirm for your plan.

What does OpenClaw hosting cost in total?

The total is two bills: the server and the AI model. At serverserv the server starts at $10.99 a month for OpenClaw Starter on a 3-year term, or $14.99 billed monthly, with setup included and no surprise price jump at renewal.

The model bill goes to your provider and depends on the model you choose and how much the agent does. Ways to keep it down include using a cheaper model for routine tasks, signing in with a subscription you already pay for, and limiting how often scheduled checks run. A local model avoids per-request fees but needs a lot of RAM and is slower on CPU. Read how to run an AI agent on your own server for a full walkthrough.

Questions

OpenClaw Hosting questions, answered

What is OpenClaw hosting?

OpenClaw hosting is a server with the OpenClaw AI agent installed so it runs around the clock. At serverserv you get your own KVM VPS with OpenClaw pre-installed and set up; you add your model provider and pair your chat apps.

Are AI model costs included?

No. You bring your own API key from a provider such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Google, or sign in with a supported subscription, and you pay that provider directly. Your plan covers the server and the setup.

How much RAM does OpenClaw need?

The official minimum is 1 GB RAM and 1 CPU core, with 2 GB or more recommended when the model runs in the cloud. Allow about 2 GB more per headless browser, and much more for a local model. See our OpenClaw VPS requirements guide, the full monthly budget in how much OpenClaw costs, and our OpenClaw security checklist.

Is OpenClaw the same as Clawdbot or Moltbot?

Yes. The project was called Clawdbot and then Moltbot before it was renamed OpenClaw on 30 January 2026. It is the same open-source agent.

Does OpenClaw need a GPU?

No. With a cloud model, OpenClaw routes messages and runs tools, which needs little CPU. A local model can run on CPU with enough RAM, but it is much slower than a cloud API.

How much does OpenClaw hosting cost?

OpenClaw Starter is $14.99 a month on monthly billing or $10.99 a month on a 3-year term, and it renews at the price you paid. Larger plans go up to Enterprise Scale with 18 vCPU and 96 GB RAM.

Should I choose OpenClaw or n8n?

OpenClaw is an AI agent you talk to in chat, and it decides how to do a task. n8n is a visual workflow tool that runs the steps you design. For workflows, see n8n hosting or our guide to OpenClaw vs n8n.

Can I upgrade to a bigger plan later?

Yes. Request an upgrade from your client area at any time, for example when you add browser automation or more agents.

Does the price go up at renewal?

No. Your plan renews for the same term at the price you paid. If a price ever has to change, you get at least 30 days' email notice and can cancel before the renewal.

How can I pay, and can I get a refund?

Pay by Visa, Mastercard or Amex card, Apple Pay or Google Pay (through Stripe) or PayPal. Prices are shown in US dollars. Refunds are handled under our refund policy.
