Which n8n hosting plan do I need?
Plan names describe server size only: every plan runs n8n Community Edition, and features that need an n8n Business or Enterprise licence key are not included.
What is self-hosted n8n?
Self-hosted n8n means running the n8n workflow automation tool on a server you control instead of on n8n Cloud. n8n is a visual editor: you connect apps, APIs and AI models with nodes, and workflows run on triggers such as a schedule, a webhook or a new form entry.
The free self-hosted version is n8n Community Edition. It is published under n8n's Sustainable Use License, a fair-code licence rather than an open-source one. It lets you use and modify n8n for your own internal business purposes, or for non-commercial and personal use. Community Edition has no limits on workflows or executions and includes queue mode for scaling.
Community Edition does not include the features that need an n8n Business or Enterprise licence key: SSO, sharing workflows and credentials between users, projects, environments, Git-based source control, external secrets, log streaming, multi-main mode and custom variables. Registering your instance with n8n for free unlocks a few extras, such as folders and debug in editor.
At serverserv, n8n Community Edition is free software that we install on your own server. Your plan pays for the server and the setup, not for n8n, and you use n8n as the licensee for your own business. serverserv does not sell n8n licences. Can I use self-hosted n8n for my business or for clients?
For your own business, yes. The Sustainable Use License allows use for your own internal business purposes, and n8n's licence FAQ says you can build workflows for clients on your own instance as long as the clients cannot edit them, and offer consulting around n8n.
The FAQ lists what is not allowed without a commercial agreement from n8n:
- hosting n8n as a service and letting your clients build workflows;
- letting external end users build or configure workflows through your product;
- white-labelling n8n;
- using enterprise features without a licence.
So do not resell access to the n8n editor on your serverserv server, and keep n8n's notices in place. This is a plain summary, not legal advice. Read n8n's own licence FAQ or contact n8n for your case, and see our guide to n8n's licence and commercial use.

n8n Cloud prices are from n8n's pricing page at the time of writing (October 2026) and can change. All three give you the same n8n workflow editor; the difference is who runs the server and how executions are counted.

What is n8n hosting?
n8n hosting is a server set up to run the n8n workflow automation tool. serverserv gives you your own KVM VPS with n8n Community Edition installed and set up, ready to open in your browser.
Is self-hosted n8n free?
n8n Community Edition is free to use under n8n's Sustainable Use License for your own business or personal use. You pay for the server it runs on; at serverserv that starts at $10.99 a month on a 3-year term, or $14.99 billed monthly.
Does self-hosted n8n have execution limits?
No. Community Edition does not cap workflows or executions, and we add no limit. Your server's CPU and RAM set the practical limit. By comparison, n8n Cloud Starter allows 2,500 executions a month at the time of writing.
How much RAM does n8n need?
A small setup runs on 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, which is our n8n Starter plan. Move to 8 GB or more for busy webhooks, large data or many AI steps, and more again for queue mode with several workers.
What is missing in n8n Community Edition?
Features that need an n8n Business or Enterprise licence key: SSO, sharing workflows and credentials between users, projects, environments, Git, external secrets, log streaming, multi-main mode and custom variables. Workflows, executions and queue mode are not limited.
Can I use self-hosted n8n for client work?
You can run workflows for your own business, and n8n's licence FAQ allows building workflows for clients on your own instance if they cannot edit them. You may not resell editor access or let your clients build workflows on the server without a commercial licence from n8n. See our n8n licence guide.
Can I move my workflows from n8n Cloud?
Yes. Export your workflows as JSON and import them on your new server. Credentials are encrypted with each instance's key, so plan to re-enter them; open a ticket if you want help.
Does the price go up at renewal?
No. Your plan renews for the same term at the price you paid. If a price ever has to change, you get at least 30 days' email notice and can cancel before the renewal.
Can I upgrade to a bigger plan later?
Yes. Request an upgrade from your client area at any time, for example when your workflows need more RAM.
How can I pay, and can I get a refund?
Pay by Visa, Mastercard or Amex card, Apple Pay or Google Pay (through Stripe) or PayPal. Prices are shown in US dollars. Refunds are handled under our refund policy.
