Hostinger OpenClaw alternatives: what to compare before you choose

By the serverserv team · 7 min read · Updated

Hostinger is one of the cheapest ways to start with OpenClaw, and for many people it is a good choice. The usual reasons to look elsewhere are the renewal price after a long prepaid term, updates you have to run yourself on the VPS template, and wanting someone to actually set the agent up for you. Here is how Hostinger's two OpenClaw options work, and how five alternatives compare.

What Hostinger offers for OpenClaw

Hostinger has two different OpenClaw products, and it helps to know which one you are comparing.

  • Managed OpenClaw (1-click). Hostinger runs the infrastructure, Docker and updates, and includes AI credits. It has been advertised from $5.99 a month during a sale, renewing at $11.99 a month on a two-year term. You do not get server-level control.
  • OpenClaw on a VPS (template). A normal Hostinger VPS with OpenClaw deployed through Docker. You get root access and manage it in hPanel's Docker Manager. Entry VPS plans have been listed from about $4.99 to $6.49 a month on long prepaid terms, renewing at $11.99, and the 8 GB KVM 2 from $6.99, renewing at $19.99.

Both are reasonable products. The low headline prices, though, depend on paying for one to two years up front.

Why people look for a Hostinger alternative

The reasons we hear most often are practical rather than about quality.

  • The renewal price. An entry plan bought at around $6 renews at about $12, and the 8 GB plan at about $20. Over three years, the renewal matters more than the intro price.
  • Long prepaid terms. The cheapest prices need a 24-month or longer prepay. Monthly billing costs considerably more.
  • Updates on the VPS template are manual. You press Update in Docker Manager yourself, and OpenClaw ships security fixes often.
  • Docker networking pitfalls. On the VPS template, ports published by Docker can bypass a UFW firewall rule, so you need to check that the Gateway is not exposed.
  • Self-service setup. Both options get OpenClaw running, but connecting channels, choosing models and building the first useful task is still on you.

How to choose

  • Lowest cost and happy to prepay: stay with Hostinger, or try Hetzner if you are comfortable managing a server.
  • No server work at all: a managed service such as Hostinger Managed or Elestio. You give up root access.
  • Root access, but set up for you: a pre-installed server where the host configures OpenClaw with you. On serverserv, we install OpenClaw, keep the Gateway private and set up your first agent task for free.
  • Monthly billing without a big jump later: compare the monthly price, not the prepaid intro price. That is where providers differ most.

Moving OpenClaw from Hostinger

Moving an existing agent is usually a short job.

  1. Back up your OpenClaw configuration and workspace on the old server.
  2. Install OpenClaw on the new server, or order a pre-installed plan.
  3. Copy the configuration and workspace across, then reconnect your model key and channels.
  4. Test a few messages, then switch off the old server and cancel it at the end of its term.

Questions

Is Hostinger good for OpenClaw?

Yes, especially if you want the lowest entry price and are happy to prepay for a long term. Check the renewal price, and on the VPS template make sure the Gateway port is not exposed.

What is the cheapest Hostinger alternative for OpenClaw?

For do-it-yourself setups, Hetzner Cloud in Europe is usually the cheapest. For managed options, compare monthly prices rather than prepaid intro prices.

Does serverserv set up OpenClaw for me?

Yes. OpenClaw comes pre-installed and configured, and we set up your first agent task for free. You connect your own model key and chat apps.

Can I keep root access with a managed alternative?

Usually not with fully managed services. A pre-installed VPS gives you both: OpenClaw set up for you, and full root access to the server.

How long does it take to move OpenClaw from Hostinger?

For a typical personal agent, under an hour: back up the configuration and workspace, install on the new server, copy them over and reconnect your channels.
